External
Programming Area
Every
three years the US Women of Today offer foundations and/or organizations
the chance to present a bid on what they would like the USWT to
do for them and what they can do for the USWT. Delegates representing
17 member states then vote on one of the foundations -- which will
be recognized as the External Programming Area for the following
three years. Past external programs have included March of Dimes,
Cystic Fibrosis, Lost Child Network, Arthritis Foundation, Leukemia
Society, RESOLVE, Multiple Sclerosis and Parents of Autistic Children(POAC).
Through the efforts of our members we have not only educated others and ourselves about these areas, but have raised over a million dollars for these foundations. In June 2008 the members selected the National Coalition against Domestic Violence (NCADV)/ Domestic Violence Awareness and will be promoting this area for the next three years.
From June 2008 – 2011 The United States Women of Today will be working with the National Coalition against Domestic Violence/Domestic Violence Awareness. We need to educate our members and communities with the facts and signs of Domestic Violence. This area is a perfect fit with our organization and together we can help break the cycle of violence. Teaming up with NCADV we can make a difference in the lives of the victims of Domestic Violence. With more than 2001 shelters across the United States it is our hope that the chapters team up with a shelter in their community and work to help them in any way possible. Financial support along with purchasing supplies and volunteering are all ways to help the local shelters.
